Daily Blabber Celebrity Gossip Blog from iVillage Entertainment

Just like last month, Tracy and I will be debating some of the things we disagreed on this month. Read our back and forth, then tell us what you think. First up? Avril Lavigne...

Suzy: Worse than last month's obsessive love of Will Smith, this time it was your love of Avril "the Spitter" Lavigne. You love her? Really? Personally, I think she should be banished from the music world for mispronouncing rock legend David Bowie's name when she read the Grammy nominations. Then again, it's not like she's truly a musician... she's more of a lip-syncing little troll.

Tracy: Give me break! In a world of pop music tartlets, Avril is one chick who has her head on straight. She does what she wants and makes no apologies -- I find that admirable. She's managed to have a successful career without slutting around Hollywood and is, spitting aside, a strong role model for young girls.

Huizenga scripted his exit well

It sounded like the most controversial, important dealmaker in South Florida sports history was fashioning his exit.

There was care taken in the announcement that Huizenga was selling 50 percent of the Dolphins (and the stadium and surrounding land) to real-estate magnate Stephen M. Ross. An emphasis that Huizenga remains managing general partner; i.e., the boss.

But what wasn't said was just as apparent.

The golden handshake between two billionaire businessmen signaled that ownership of the Miami Dolphins -- our sports flagship that has been controlled by only two families since 1966 -- has begun a gradual but seismic change of hands.

(Man, the Dolphins sure know how to steal thunder from the Marlins and their new stadium, don't they?)

ORDERLY TRANSITION

I believe Huizenga would have ceded controlling interesting and power to Ross right away but for a public-relations effort to make the transition less jarring for a franchise and fandom already in tumult after six consecutive years out of the playoffs and yet another coaching change.

Hospital hurting for funds

People do not make this kind of money and the medical profession needs to realize this I know their work is valuable and their time is precious like most of us but you cannot get blood out of a turnip. I am affraid this whole country is going to have to down size and lower cost of goods and services because the public can no longer afford it. Insurance has cut out so much in claims and what they will not pay for many things, it too is a joke and highly unreliable. It all boils down to economics and unfortunately we are all suffering and until someone gets some common sense to do some good for this country and make some drastic changes this will not get any better. In the mean time there is little we can do.

Weak banks, carmakers end European scrips rally

European stocks dipped in early trade on Friday, falling for the first time in five sessions as banking shares slipped on renewed worries over the global credit crunch.

Geopolitical concerns following the assassination of Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto also dampened the mood in equity markets around the world.

Europes benchmark index is up 1.4 percent on the year, on track to record its worst annual performance since 2002.

HSBC was down 0.9 percent, HBOS down one percent and Credit Suisse down 0.5 percent.

Banking shares have been hit in recent months by a squeeze in the global credit market, and investors fear that financial institutions have not yet unveiled the full impact of the debacle in the U.S. subprime mortgage market on their books.

Pak Lah: We’re realistic and responsible

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasionals promises outlined in its 21-page election manifesto are realistic and responsible and not merely empty promises, its chairman Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

Our promises must be based on an awareness that the responsibility is on us to deliver. They are not empty promises or just to entertain the people, or irresponsible promises. We are not like that, he said in launching the Barisan manifesto entitled Security, Peace and Prosperity and its campaign website (www.BN2008.org.my) at the Putra World Trade Centre here yesterday.

Sure, sure, it's all been done before, but now I get to do it. Without further ado, here is my all-name team. 20 - Rod Smart - Who the Hell is Rod Smart you ask? Well he is none other than the fool who called himself "He Hate Me" and pretty much epitomized the debacle that was the XFL. 19. Elbert L. "Ickey" Woods - Running back his entire carreer for the Bengals. Hey, how many guys not named Humpty Hump have a dance named after them. The Ickey Shuffle remains high on the all time celebrations list. 18. "Chocolate Thunder" Darryl Dawkins - Perhaps more appropriate for wrestling or porn, but still has a nice ring to it. 17. "Pistol" Pete Maravich - LSU grad was a known practicioner of yoga, a part time ufologist, and could also play a little basketball. Died of a heart attack in 1988 at a young age.

One America Committee blog.oneamericacommittee.com/videoblog

The One America Committee says it is "dedicated to helping elect Democratic candidates across the country." The most important Democrat seems to be Senator John Edwards. Remember him? Eight months after the 2004 Presidential election, Senator Edwards launched a video blog. While it is hard to imagine the Senator fiddling around with his computer late at night editing video (he has some professional help on this), it does maintain a grassroots, homemade feeling. Citizens (right now mostly video bloggers) can video tape a question and send it in. Then Sen. Edwards answers the question, also on video. The end result is a time-delayed conversation, or a really long town hall meeting. It is a great application of the vlog concept. And a good indicator that the Internet will continue to be a key tool in politics.
