The Joint Strike Fighter isn't a done deal, and the leadership at the Pentagon seems dead set against buying anymore F-22s beyond the four they just ordered to keep the production line open past 2011. If Boeing can put something together that would offer a real leap beyond JSF--it isn't so far fetched that they could divide and conquer.

Aperture, Lightroom come into focus

Aperture 1.5 promises some features that users have been requesting: increased flexibility in where you store images and a plug-in facility that gives you new options for sharing, storing, printing, publishing, and even selling your pictures. And it works with a greater number of cameras than did prior versions.

An interesting cool prospect is being able to browse your Aperture library—including both online and offline photos—with the iLife or iWork '06 media browser so you can continue your work in iWeb or Keynote, for example. Theoretically, you could have imported the images you wanted to use into iPhoto, but the more flexibility the better—especially if you're actually using Photoshop and Bridge as opposed to iPhoto to edit your images. At the same time Apple was polishing up Aperture, Adobe was tinkering with its own workflow management tool, Lightroom, which has been rechristened Photoshop Lightroom.

Do You Want the Military Industrial Complex Counting Your Votes?

They have had numerous government officials on their board, including a former secretary of defense and undersecretary of the air force.

The corporation they are trying to by is Diebold, infamous for producing electronic voting machines that have serious security and performance problems. Their election division became so problematic that they created a veil of separation between their ATM business and their election products in August 2007. They renamed the division Premier Election Solutions and this February gave it a separate board of directors (three out of five of the board were Diebold officials). Diebold tried to sell the troubled election system in 2007 but was unable to find a buyer.

The former CEO of Diebold, Walden O’Dell raised distrust about Diebold as an honest vote counter by announcing before the 2004 election in a fundraising letter for President Bush that he would do all in his power to deliver Ohio for Bush.

MPs fear Terror Bill switches power from Scots to English courts

However, last night Scotland Office Minister David Cairns accused the UK Government's political opponents of "another example of a manufactured division between us on an issue where we need to stand together".

He added: "The Scottish Executive was involved fully in the drafting of the Counter-Terrorism Bill provisions and was completely content with them."

Concerns about the bill's impact on Scots law were raised yesterday in the Commons by Alistair Carmichael, the Liberal Democrats' spokesman on Scotland, who talked of the "growing concern in Scotland" about the operation of the new bill and, in particular, Clause 27, which covers the issue of jurisdiction.

He asked Home Secretary Jacqui Smith if she understood the bill was "fraught with difficulty", adding: "Can she assure me if that does go on to the statute book, it will only be operated after very clear guidelines are agreed with the Lord Advocate?"

The Home Secretary, however, made no mention of guidelines, the Scottish legal system or the Lord Advocate, but replied: "It's important if there are linked attacks, for example, in London and in Scotland, that it's possible through the proposals we are putting forward for both of those linked cases to be prosecuted in one place.
