The real answer is in the food that we eat

THREE cheers to Larissa Dubecki (Opinion, 19/2) for boldly going where others fear to tread. Her article referred to female genitalia using the "c-word", which is instantly recognisable to us all. I have long been curious as to how this feature of femininity came to represent a hideous insult.

There is something a little frightening for women when a major part of their anatomy and womanhood (sexuality, giving birth, etc) is held in such contempt, and is viewed as so nasty and disgusting that the very word is banned from polite conversation.

Gainore Atkins, Altona Meadows

The lowest of insults CONGRATULATIONS to Larissa Dubecki for her article on the hypocrisy re four-letter words. Sexism is rampant in classifying the word as impolite when words for the male genitalia are OK.

Gov. Schwarzenegger Helps Fainting Boy At Speech

If you watch the video, keep your eye on the left side of the screen. One of the students, Theo Scott-Femenella, 12, wavered and passed out, falling to the ground. It didn't take the governor long to realize what happened. He went right over to help. After a few seconds, the boy was back on his feet with the help of Governor Schwarzenegger, and was carried by his father to the nurse's office."All of a sudden, I wake up and see Patty Smart and Governor Schwarzenegger helping me up from the ground," Theo said. "That meant, 'Oh no, déjà vu.'"Theo had fainted once back in the fourth grade, but as a big sixth grader, he never expected it to happen again, certainly not on camera and in front of the governor. "I'm sure one side of me was thinking, 'Cool, the governor's helping me up,'" Theo said. "But wait, 'I fainted in front of the governor.

There’s Nothing Mainstream About the Corporate Media

As we stumble toward another presidential election, it's never been more clear that our political process is being warped by a corporate stranglehold on the free flow of information. Amidst a virtual blackout of coverage of a horrific war, a global ecological crisis and an advancing economic collapse, what passes for the mass media is itself in collapse. What's left of our democracy teeters on the brink.

The culprit, in the parlance of the day, has been the "Mainstream Media," or MSM.

But that's wrong name for it. Today's mass media is Corporate, not Mainstream, and the distinction is critical.

Calling the Corporate Media (CM) "mainstream" implies that it speaks for mid-road opinion, and it absolutely does not.

There is, in fact, a discernable, tangible mainstream of opinion in this country.

Booze, divorce, designer handbags

A former Georgia Tech employee, Donna Gamble, is accused of making more than $316,000 in purchases for personal use on a state-issued credit card over a five-year period ending last year. This is a prime example of why Gov. Sonny Perdue's emphasis on getting a reliable management and accountability system in state government matters. If the Tech software geeks can write spam-filter software, surely they can write software that raises red flags about unusual purchases such as, for example, designer handbags.

• State Sen. David J. Shafer (R-Duluth) makes a convincing case that the Tennessee River flows through Georgia. A mapmaker's error in 1818 put 1.1 miles of Georgia into Tennessee, says he. Shafer wants a commission to precisely establish the location of the 35th parallel, the line between the two states.

Rumps enjoy taste of success

The defense has never been better this season; the depth has never been more of a factor. "It's surreal because we expected something bad to happen," Ryan said. "It had always happened before. Aquinas was snakebitten. There was a lot of success and heartbreak down there. It just didn't happen to us this year. "We knew we had the potential this year, but a lot of the pressure was self-inflicted," Ryan said. "But we finally closed the deal. We finally had the excitement and satisfaction of getting to the pinnacle. It was relief. I've slept pretty comfortably since that win." Rich doesn't say much on the bench. He's more the strong-silent type, willing to offer his input any time Ryan asks for it, which is often. He's not even listed on the team's program. Yet, he's the perfect complement to Ryan's X's and O's mentality.

ON MCCAIN'S CITIZENSHIP Click here to see the video

-I think that the media needs to get a grip! I will not vote for McCain, but I do not doubt his citizenship! Susan, VA Beach

-Language in Constitution needs to be changed to fit the times. John McCain should be considered a citizen of U.S. Mary Ann, Belle Haven

-If we are going to question every one that was born at a military base, there are going to be pleanty of people that are not "natural" citizens! His parents, and grandparents are American citizens - he was born at an American controlled Panama Canal Zone location - doesn't the media have anything better to do? Bonnie, Gloucester

-McCain is and always will be a United States citizen.
