| Film fest brings Hollywood flare to Belcher Center
A longtime campus event at LeTourneau University opens to the community Feb. 29 when an amateur Film Festival moves to the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center. The event pits short movies shot by students, and this year by residents, against each other in an awards show format. Several films will be shown. "We're doing the whole red carpet thing," student coordinator James Christopherson said. "So, if people want to dress up for it, that would be neat. "We had several very, very good films this year that, on their own, are worth coming out to see. This has always been just a smaller campus activity. This year we get to open it up (to the community). We're really excited about it." Christopherson said about 15 amateurs submitted short film entries this year, ranging from five to 15 minutes long.
This year may see some surprises
Without an outright odds-on favourite destined to sweep the soiree, the big night may need those newly returned guild workers to rewrite history in a hurry. The Oscars represent a confluence of artistry and emotion, timely urgency and accidental resonance - coupled with an ever-changing Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences demographic. There are more women, more minorities and more young people in the club than ever before. The days of automatic wins for the establishment-friendly epic are over, but that doesn't mean Oscar tradition won't come into play when the prizes are handed out. That said, here's my look at how things could go down Sunday night. .
Hip-Hop Rumors: Jay-Z Supports Kanye, ODB On George Bush, T.I ...
"We love you Kanye. We got you. Stay strong," Jay-Z. On the real, the Hip-Hop community is feeling for Kanye and his loss. I heard that nearly all of Roc-A-Fella Records will be flying to Chicago for funeral and memorial services for Donda West, Kanye's doting mother. Here is a statement I got from a rep at The Roc, “We are saddened by the loss of Ms. West. The offices of Roc-A-Fella will be totally empty today by request of Mr. Carter." Kanye did what he said to do: “If you admire somebody, you should gon' head [and] tell ‘em / People never get the flowers, while they can still smell ‘em."" Kanye's mother had mad flowers. Instead of flowers, Kanye West and his family request that donations be made in Dr. West's name to Kanye West Foundation/Loop Dreams Teacher Training Institute at 8560 W.
Creating rich Internet applications on Linux with WebKit
Development on the GTK WebKit port is progressing at a very impressive pace. We have previously looked at several noteworthy experiments related to the port, including a GStreamer-based HTML5 video element implementation, and WebKit backend support for web browsers on Maemo, Epiphany, and OLPC. These tests demonstrate the increasing efficacy of the GTK WebKit port in the context of a conventional browser, but there are also many other fascinating experiments that reveal additional contexts in which the GTK WebKit port has value. GTK WebKit developer Alp Toker published slides last week from his presentation at the Free and Open Source Software Developers' European Meeting (FOSDEM). The presentation discusses prospects for developing hybrid desktop/web applications with WebKit and GTK.

-Breyer: "Imagine that I want to buy some bicycle pedals, so I go to the bicycle shop. These are fabulous pedals. The inventor has licensed somebody to make them, and he sold them to the shop, make and sell them. He sold them to the shop. I go buy the pedals. I put it in my bicycle. I start pedaling down the road. Now, we don't want 19 patent inspectors chasing me or all of the other companies and there are many doctrines in the law designed to stop that." .

What Harry said when he was there
Yeah you've got the 105 guns up there that are firing down here, so, you know, you hear the bangs but you don't see what's going on so it's nice to get down here and actually be part of it and actually help."And obviously my job being a JTAC means that I'm needed around the place as are other JTACs to actually support and help out troops that come under contact."Is it very different doing it in anger in the field than it has been doing your job in exercises?"Yeah, it is slightly different. A lot of the time the guys are engaging invisible firing points because the Taliban are so good at hiding in their trenches "It is somewhat like what I can imagine World War Two to be like, as you saw on JTAC Hill it's just no man's land, they pop up their heads, they poke their heads up and that's it."If the guys are coming under a lot of fire then I call the air in and as soon as the air comes up they disappear and just jump down these holes or go into their bunkers." So it's a very strange reality really."As a soldier this is what it's all about isn't it?"Yeah, this is what it is all about, what it's all about is being here with the guys rather than being in a room with a bunch of officers."I'm in here with all the guys, most of them are artillery guys basically doing a swap over with the other ones on JTAC Hill, staging on staging off, doing a week because it's quite a lot of graft up there, supposedly."It's good fun to be with just a normal bunch of guys, listening to their problems, listening to what they think."And especially getting through every day ...
