| Disney to recruit interns at UNLV
Though these jobs may not seem like typical internship work, Bolivar said that it is the “Disney difference" that makes it worthwhile. “It doesn't matter what you did there, it matters that you were there," Bolivar said. Wellington works at the gift shops at the All Star Resorts and agrees that the experience in polishing her communication skills and learning to better serve customers is what sets the internship apart from the rest. To motivate interns, positions are even given different names to help workers remember that they are there to entertain. Employees are called cast members, customers are called guests, uniforms are refereed to as costumes and when at work interns are on-stage. During the internship, students live in apartments with anywhere from three to five roommates.
My So-Called Internetlife
The summer after I finished ninth grade, I spent three days a week organizing PowerPoint presentations for the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health Distance Education Division. I didn't get paid, my help wasn't all that needed, and the slide shows were way too specialized for me to learn much more than the definition of the word "cohort." Still, my parents were elated: Instead of lazily wasting my summer days watching MTV or reading or hanging out at the pool, I was being "productive," gaining ever-invaluable "work experience." Did I really need a summer job? I was 15, my family was financially stable, I didn't want to buy a car or a new television or a video-game system. What I did want was to enjoy my youth until responsibility beckoned. But my parents vigorously believed I needed to learn responsibility, I needed to get out of the house, yada yada yada yada … .
Bulls gore Stormers in thriller
The Northern Bulls kicked off their defence of the Super 14 title they won in 2007 with a thrilling 16-9 win over the Western Stormers at Newlands Stadium on Saturday. While the Bulls trailed 9-0 after half an hour, they scored 16 unanswered points from then on to run out comfortable 16-9 winners. It was a remarkable turn-around for the visitors considering they are without World Cup stars Victor Matfield and Gary Botha, who're now playing abroad, while they have a new coach in Frans Ludeke. "The guys showed a lot of character to come back from 9-0 down," said Bulls captain Fourie du Preez afterwards. .
U.S., local immigration teamwork is hailed
The rapid growth of a little-known program that teams federal agents with local authorities to identify and deport jailed immigrants is being embraced as a way to reduce crime and illegal immigration simultaneously. The expansion has been felt throughout South Central Texas, with 22 more Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents added to the area last year. The Travis County Sheriff's Department approved an ICE request last month to open an office at its lockup. A similar acceleration is planned for Bexar County Jail, which ICE agents already visit daily. Under the Criminal Alien Program, the agents check inmates identified by jail administrators as foreign nationals. Those who are not legally in the country — a determination that only federal agents can make — receive "detainers," meaning ICE agents have one day after their release date to take them into federal custody once their criminal cases are resolved.
Russert falsely attributed "epitomized greatness" quote to Rev. Wright
Fox News' Sean Hannity similarly misattributed the quote on numerous occasions in January. Other media outlets -- in some cases citing Russert -- have misattributed the quote to Wright. Russert's falsehood about the quote was yet another in a series of falsehoods contained in questions he has asked during the Democratic presidential debates. Here is what McKinney-Jones wrote of Farrakhan in the article, which appeared in the November/December 2007 of Trumpet Newsmagazine: Because of the Minister's influence in the African American community, Trumpet Newsmagazine honors him this winter at its Sounds of the Shore gala with an Empowerment Award. It seemed a fitting tribute for a storied life well lived. And as our brief interview drew to a close and he thanked me for taking the time to talk to him, I could not help but think, the Minister, the man with whom I had been so casually speaking, truly epitomized greatness.
